Design the load to work with the grid.

Coordinate new demand, supply, storage and flexible compute. Measure performance once operating.

Engineering and grid-connection process

AI infrastructure brings a responsibility to plan supply and demand together. The grid is a shared resource, and a large new load needs to be designed with that in mind.

Alberta prioritizes qualifying data-centre projects that pair new demand with generation or storage. Project-specific connections remain subject to AESO studies, applicable approvals and operating requirements.

Flexibility is part of the design.

Our engineering work is considering the grid connection, battery storage and flexible compute together. That includes the ability to reduce electricity use when required during system stress. The final service terms and operating requirements are not yet settled.

Pairing the project with new generation and storage is under evaluation. The site sits within an established energy corridor with significant wind and solar development—an opportunity to study carefully, not a claim about the project’s eventual energy mix.

Scale and performance have to be earned.

  1. Get more from each unit of energy.

    Evaluate efficiency across cooling, power distribution and computing hardware.

  2. Advance in stages.

    Plan an approximately 400 MW first phase. Any later expansion would need its own engineering, approvals, customers and capital.

  3. Report actual performance.

    Once operating, plan to measure energy use, power usage effectiveness (PUE) and carbon intensity.
