02 · Water

Measure every litre.

An allocation is a ceiling, not a consumption forecast. Design choices determine the water we need.

Allocation approved · Cooling design under evaluation

In southern Alberta, water is shared by farms, communities and ecosystems. Availability changes from year to year. That reality belongs at the centre of the design.

Palliser Grid holds an approved Bow River Irrigation District allocation of up to 5,500 acre-feet per year. Actual needs will depend on the final cooling design, water balance and operating agreement.

Make the trade-offs visible.

Cooling is expected to be the main water use. Reducing water use can increase electricity demand, so the right answer has to account for both.

We are evaluating closed-loop and dry-cooling options suited to Alberta’s climate, alongside other approaches. No final cooling configuration or operating water-consumption figure is being claimed.

Our design commitment is to test the proposed water requirements against a dry-year scenario before finalizing the design.

Account for the whole water balance.

  1. Measure the flows.

Plan to measure water withdrawn, consumed, returned and reused once operating.

  2. Use water efficiently.

Pursue technically and economically practical efficiency, with transparent discussion of the water–energy trade-offs.

  3. Respect a shared resource.

Keep agricultural and community water priorities central to project planning.
